Title: Praying Fajr name behind Shafi' Imam

Question: I live in Singapore and almost all the mosque here is Shafi' madhhab. In Fajr prayer, instead of going to sajdah after standing from ruku, they ask dua while standing and then go to sajdah. What should I do, how do I pray behind Shafai imam?

When the Shafi’i Imam starts reading Qunoot after standing from the ruku you should not read the Qunoot rather stay silent. Further when the imam goes in ruku then you too should go in the ruku. Thus your salah shall be valid without any karahat.

ويتبع الموتم قانت الوتر لا الفجر ... أي لا يتبع الموتم ألإمام القانت في صلاة الفجر وهذا عند أبى حنيفة ومحمد ... وقال في الهداية : والأظهر وقوفه ساكتاً وصححه قاضيخان وغيره الخ (البحر الرائق  2/76، ط: زكريا)
