Question: (1) Some people say that Durood can be sent from anywhere but Salam is sent when you are at the grave of the holy Prophet (SAW). Is it true? (2) Also some people say that Tablighi Jamah brothers do not send Salam on the holy Prophet (SAW) and they only send Durood. Please help me as these are creating confusion in my mind.

    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 579/659/N=1433) (1) This differentiation is not correct. Durood and Salam may be sent from anywhere. Also Durood and Salam may be recited at the holy grave of the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Many hadith of Mishkah Shareef (كتاب الصلاة باب الصلاة على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وفضلها ص 86 ، 87) prove the same. Also it is mentioned in Mirqat al-Mafatih (3:18, published by Dar al-Kutub al-Elmiyah, Beirut, Lebanon): قال الطيبي: ولا شك أن الصلاة فى الحضور أفضل من الغيبة انتهى لأن الغالب حضور القلب عند الحضرة والغفلة عند الغيبة اهـ . Also it is mentioned in Maraqi al-Falah (مع حاشية الطحطاوي باب زيارة قبر النبي صلى الله لعيه وسلم ص: 749 ، دار الكتاب ديوبند): ثم تصلي عليه اهـ Hadhrat Shaikh al-Hadith (رحمة الله عليه) has mentioned in Fazail Durood (p. 23, 24): so as per my opinion if at every place Durood and Salam are combined then it is far better i.e. if الصلاة والسلام عليك يا رسول الله الصلاة والسلام عليك يا نبي الله! is recited instead of:السلام عليك يا رسول الله! السلام عليك يا نبي الله! and in the same way the word of الصلاة with السلام is added up to last then it is far better. And the different forms of the Durood which are narrated by the holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in some of them Salam is also mentioned. (Fazail Durood Shareef, p. 60) and also Salam is mentioned in al-Tahiyat. In short, the differentiation mentioned there in the question is wrong. (2) It is also wrong. Alhamdulillah, the people of Tablighi Jamah send Durood and Salam extensively. In the talim and bayan of Fazail etc when the name of the holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is read out they recite Sallallahu Alaih Wasallam in which both Durood and Salam are combined. Yes, they avoid the Salat and Salam which is prevalent among the bid’ati people before salah and after salah loudly, as it is invented by the ignorant people and it is bid’ah.
