- Q. Assalam-U-Alaikum. I want to know whether there is a permission in Islam to purchase a car on Installments. As per my knowledge, under installment scheme, you are supposed to pay the actual cost fixed intrest per month. But the cost is predecided by the bank for eg. if the vehicle cost is 4 lakhs, and if you are paying the installments in 3 years, bank will calculate the intrest and give you the final figure of 5.5 lakhs. So the cost of the car is 5.5 lakhs for you, which you are supposed to pay in 3 years. But if you change your plan of making payment in 4 years, then the total value of car will increase. So Please let me know whether we can purchase a car on installment. I can not buy a car by paying entire amount in cash, and car is very important for me to buy. Will be thankful to you for your advise.

- Q. Assalamu alaikum w w Respected brothers we have a small flour mill at village . My father has been running it for the past 4 years but now a problem has raised . villagers bring their corns (the seeds of) plants, such as wheat , maize and we grind them . It is our job but before grinding them we take some of their corns as a living which we have fixed for one KG and for two KG etc and after taking some of thier corns we grind them but if the owners tell us that they will give us money then we don't take some of their corns but instead of taking corns we take money from them now imam of a mosque at our village says that the corns we take is (Haram) he gave us an example " if he hires a person to bring his luggage to home so after completing the work he will give him his money which is fixed by them he told us that we shouldn't take their corns unless we grind them and after grinding their corns if we take some of their flour or money is valid it depends on the owners if they give us money or some of their flour tell me what should we do is it (Haram) what way should we adopt and if it is (Haram) we have been running our flour mill for 4 years now should we do penance and how much and what should we give as a penance please reply me with a comprehensive details and tell me how to run the flour mill from now on we will be grateful to u.

- Q. I am an new overseas student at an american university. I was looking for a place to live in the vicinity of the campus and mosque. Me and my friends found a place near to both, but it is owned jointly by the local church and a contractor. The advantage of this apartment over others is that it has a short lease period (I may want to leave for another university in the next 3 months). Is it permissible for me to live in such an apartment when I know that the funds received by the church can go for their activities like preaching (perhaps even to my fellow muslims and/or non-muslims) and worship activities inside the church. I am intending on moving if I get a better accomodation, but the lease is valid for 3 months before which I have to pay a fine for leaving the apartment. I can still however afford to move if it is Haram to live there JazaKAllah,

- Q. In Canada, when we buy a house, bank pays for us and then we pay monthly mortgage to the bank. Out of this mortgage amount, most part(about 700 out of 1000) is going to bank as interest and only a small amount is going to our payment and that way we are struggling whole life to get rid of this big amount. Alhamdolillah Im still away from this Riba problem but a lot of Muslims are involved in mortgages and im also pressed by friends to get a house(i live on rental), so my questions today are 1...Is this kind of mortgage is allowed assuming that there is no option other than living on rent! 2...People are doing business also like they buy a house and sell after some time with profit while paying riba to the bank as mortgage, is this property business is halal while involving in riba mortgage! 3...Most important, is paying sood is equally condemned and haram sin as getting(eating) sood! 4...After getting pressed by my friends to get mortgage, when I say its haram, they say Islam is not that narrow as you have made and Allah(SWT)forgives this kind of sins because they are necessary for life, what is your opinion!

- Q. I am a member of the managing committee of the building society in which we reside. The society comprises of 33 members, mostly muslims. We have got advertisement hoardings on the terrace through which, we generate good revenue. Every year we give gifts to all society members in the form of eatables etc. This year we decided to gift dry fruits. All the managing committee members went to the market to purchase the dry fruits for and on behalf of all the society members. After purchasing the dry fruits one of the managing committe members requested for some personal gift from the shop keeper. As the purchase was a huge amount, the shopkeeper gifted all the managing committee members some chocolates which they kept for personal use. I did not object at that time, but later decided that i would give the gift away in sadkah from the society's side and requested the other members to do the same. They all refused to give the choclates away. I told them three times but they still kept for personal use. Please tell me: Is keeping the gift allowed, when we went to purchase material for the society? How can we take personal favors from the shopkeeper? 2. Is giving it away in sadkah correct? Please reply at the earliest.
