Title: In which finger ring should be worn?

Question: In which finger ring should be worn? In which finger has the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW) worn the ring?

(Fatwa: 861/861/M=09/1437)

It is recorded in Nasai Sharif that the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to wear ring in his right hand. The narration does not mention the finger. However, a Hadith of Bukhari which is narrated by Hadhrat Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, explains that the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, got a ring made for himself  and engraved a certain engraving on it. I saw the glitter of the ring on his little finger. It means that it is better to wear the ring in little finger. It is forbidden for males to wear a ring in index and middle finger.

عن على رضى الله عنه قال: قال الشريك اخبرنى أبو سلمة أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يلبس خاتمه فى يمينه (نسائي شريف كتاب الزينة باب موضع الخاتم من اليد 5213 دارالفكر بيروت)

عن أنس رضى الله عنه قال صنع النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم خاتما قال : إنا اتخذنا خاتماً ونقشنا فيه نقشاً فلا ينقش عليه أحد قال فإنى لأرى بريقه فى خنصره (بخاري شريف كتاب اللباس باب الخاتم فى الخنصر 2/873 بيروت)

قال على رضى الله عنه : قال لى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : يا علي سل الله الهدى واسداد ونهانى أن أجعل الخاتم فى هذه وهذه وأشار يعنى بالسبابة والوسطى (نسائى كتاب الزنية باب النهىعن الخاتم فى السبابة و كذا فى سنن الترمذى ابواب اللباس)
