Title: I would like to ask a masla regarding the menses (periods) duration. If the blood stops within 2 days and it doesn't come on 3rd day so it will be considered istihaza so will it be allowed for the woman to have intercourse before the completion of 10 days period? Or should the woman wait for 10 days? - Also similarly another case that if the normal duration of a lady's periods is 5 days and she takes bath and resumes prayer and has intercourse, but then blood comes again within 10 days and continues, then will this intercourse be wrong? What will be the medical side effects as it is not good for the health and islamic point of view? So in both cases we don't know if the blood will come again within 10 days or not, so is it ok to have intercourse? What will shariah say from medical and islamic point of view? Jazakallah khair, Waiting for your answer.

    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

    (Fatwa: 151/133/L=1431)

If menstrual blood stops within less than three days, it shall be considered istihazah (vaginal bleeding other than menses). But if the woman has fixed habit (i.e. five or six days in a month etc) she should avoid having intercourse during these days, because there is a chance that she starts bleeding till her expected days.

    (2) If the woman has fixed habit (of five or six days for example) and her blood stops as usual, it is allowed for her to perform salah after ghusl and have intercourse. And if after praying salah etc bleeding starts again, then if it exceeds more than ten days, it shall be considered istihazah, and she will have to offer the missed salah of this period, and if it remains within less than ten days, it will be considered that her habit has changed and it would be considered menstrual blood. She should do tauba and istighfar for the intercourse she had during this period. In such condition when the blood comes again she should avoid offering salah, reciting the holy Quran and having intercourse etc up to ten days.
