Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !
(Fatwa: 605/609=D)
It is prohibited to bow down at the time of meeting or respect anyone by bowing one’s head. The Islamic way taught by our Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is to greet with salaam and shake hands. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) categorically disallowed from bowing down. Hazrat Anas narrated that a person asked the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam): “Can we bow down if we meet a Muslim brother?” The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “No”. (Mishkaat: 401) This is an un-Islamic custom which should be avoided.
