Title: Replacement of Qurbani

Question: If Qurbani was wajib in last year but someone did not do it then kaffarah is to donate equivalent amount to someone. Then can it be followed for the current year's Qurbani also. If someone is animal lover who wants to offer Qurbani by donating same amount to poor, how will it be seen in Shariah.

If qurbani was wajib on someone but he did not offer it then it is necessary for him to give the price of an average goat in sadaqah. If the animal was bought last year for qurbani then it is not necessary to give the same animal in charity. Likewise, it is not mandatory to give its price in charity; rather after passing the days of qurbani it is necessary to give the price of an average goat in sadaqah.

ولو لم يضح حتى مضت أيام النحر وكان غنياً ، وجب عليه أن يتصدق بالقيمة ، سواء كان اشترى أو لم يشتر؛ لأنها واجبة في ذمته فلا يخرج عن العهدة إلا بالأداء ....... (تبيين الحقائق / كتاب الأضحية 6/478 زكريا)

(2) It is necessary for the person to do qurbani on whom qurbani is wajib. It shall not be fulfilled if he gives in charity the price of the qurbani to the poor and needy ones.
