If that pious person is a follower of Sunnah, he and his companions are religiously sound, he prefers Akhirah (life hereafter) to this world, then you should not cancel his bai?ah (pledge of allegiance) unless you find any Shariah reason. You should make an effort to achieve what you think is yet to be gotten from him. Bai?ah made in childhood is also valid. But if that pious person had passed away or getting spiritual guidance from him is difficult or there is no way left to seek his instructions for reforming oneself, then there is no wrong in doing bai?ah with any other perfect Shaikh (spiritual guide). However, for this, you had better perform istikharah.
