Question: How much time one should sit for iftar as he has to offer Maghrib salah also? How long the time of Maghrib salah remains?

    Answer ID: 67383

    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

    (Fatwa: 1129/1140/N=11/1437)

    (1) A delay of 10 or 12 minutes is allowable in the month of Ramadan in Maghrib salah in respect to the fasting people so that the fasting people may join Maghrib jamah easily after having iftar. (Fatawa Darul Uloom Deoband 2: 45, Question: 38, pub. Maktaba Zakaria Deoband).

    (2) The time of Maghrib, according to Imam Abu Hanifah, may Allah have mercy upon him, remains till setting of the Shafaq-e-Abyaz (white twilight), whereas according to Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Muhammad, may Allah have mercy upon them, it remains till the setting of Shafaq-e-Ahmar (red twilight); therefore out of the precaution, Maghrib salah should be offered before disappearance of the Shafaq-e-Ahmar (red twilight) and no delay should be made more than it. It is makrooh tahrimi to make a delay till the starts are much brighter in the sky. So it is mentioned in the books of Fiqh and Fatawa.
