Title: Relating to Age of goat for Aqeeqah

Question: My son was born on 22nd June 2012 (Friday) and the seventh day of his birth was on 28th June 2012 (Thursday). We wanted to perform the aqiqah ceremony on seventh day (i.e. on 28th June 2012) after his birth. We searched for the he-goats for the aqiqah that should have completed 1 year of age but could only find the he-goats (khassi) that were of 10 months of age, but they were very high and fat and seemed to be of the age more than 1 year. The milk teeth of the he-goats were also not broken. The aqiqah was performed on 28th June 2012. Now, tell me is this aqiqah correct or we have to repeat the same? Please reply as soon as possible.

    Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

(Fatwa: 1190/771/H=1433) The qualities of the animal for aqiqah should be similar to the animal of qurbani. The ruling regarding the slaughter of goat is that though it looks as healthy as one year old but it is not lawful to slaughter it in aqiqah or qurbani; thus aqiqah was not valid. If there is no problem you should slaughter two goats for aqiqah and divide the meat into three parts; one part for the poor and needy ones, one share for relatives and one share for personal use. It is better. It is not the order of Shariah to arrange for meal in aqiqah.
