Title: Can I touch my wife before paying her mahr?

Question: Can I touch my wife before paying the mahr to her on the marriage day? Can I touch or hold her hand before our marriage? (our marriage is already fixed)

(Fatwa: 347/347/SD=05/1437)

It is allowable to touch the wife after nikah before paying the mahr, but on the day of marriage before nikah also she is stranger; and it is not lawful to have contact with her and touch her hand.

It is not right to see the girl you want to marry by appointing a meeting; it is allowable only if you see her by chance. It is better to get a proposed girl seen by ones relative women. In another fatwa a person asked:Assalamalaikum I have come to know that it is not permissible to even look at 'ghair-mahram', i.e., someone who you are eligible to marry with. If this is true, then how can a person - male or female - decide his/her future spouse? U replied:It is prohibited to look at ghar-mahram, (strange opposite sex) but if you intend to marry a girl then you can see her once, rather it has been declared allowed in a hadith. Q. I married a girl in April 2009 and now I have a son by grace of Allah almighty. The problem started with the day of marriage as the the guest from my side were treated badly. But I maintained a neutral view towards every body and always advocated methods to reconcile and forget the past. But from past 6 months (since the birth of our child)the attitude of my in laws has changed and they have started using languages (threatened to kill me and my parents-specially my wifes aunt) . I Then also I told my parents and wife that only my wife maintain relationship with them and me and my family will not talk to them. My wife's dad came to our house and again started cursing my parents and my younger sister. I am really upset with all this thing and most hurtful is that my wife doesnot seem take a stand on who is right and who is wrong...even if I have asked her several times. This really angers me as being the only son to my parents I have a duty towards my parents...and the only way now seems to me is that I separate from my wife. My father is totally against this but I cannot go against my parents wish. Please advice what should be done in this regard. I too love my wife but I am not able to make her understand that loving her does not mean that I will take take any bad remarks for my family from her family.. Please advice that according to Shariah what is the best possible way available to me..
