Title: opinion of name

Question: We have named our daughter as Samrah at birth in azaan we were told its the name of sahaba and it also appears in the Quran. Please let us know your opinion for this name.

(Fatwa: 1222/1222/M=01/1437) Samrah is a Jewish sect who denies any prophet after Prophet Musa, may peace and blessings of God be upon him. والسامرى أحد السامرة وهم طائفة من اليهود ينكرون نبوة من جاء بعد موسى عليه السلام . (تبصيرالمنتبه بتحرير المشتبه لابن حجر العسقلانى ج 2 ص 712 ط: المكتبة العلمية بيروت، لبنان) The exact word of Samrah is not available in the holy Quran. We also did not find anywhere Samrah as the name of any sahabiyah. Hence it is better to select any other name for your daughter.
