Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !
(Fatwa: 447/495/L=5/1438)
It is one of the virtuous deeds to mention the holy biography of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah have mercy upon him), provided true and authentic events are narrated, not the fabricated and false narrations. Similarly, the person who is speaking should be good and practicing Alim and the money is not spent on the program extravagantly. If these limits and conditions are fulfilled and such an event is held any day except 12 Rabi Awwal, then it is indeed an act of virtue and reward. As many people would hear it and adopt sunnah way of life, you shall get that much reward.
