It is not against taqwa (piety) to buy expensive ittar to apply for good fragrance provided it is not intended for arrogance, show and publicity. But if you intend that you shall buy cheap ittar and donate the rest amount to the poor and needy ones then it is a deed of great reward. (Shami: 9/49, Kitab al-Hazar Wal Ibahat, pub. Zakaria)
