    Title: Please tell me the correct procedure of burying a person, what should be his position when he is kept in 'kabr', should kewada be sprayed inside the 'kabr', is it allowed to spray water on which any quranic ayaat have been blown inside the 'kabr' etc. I request u to plz provide me detailed information and pray for me that Allah accepts me in his way and assists me in eradicating these un islamic practices from my locality, and society as a whole. I will distribute the copies of this fatwa to as many mazjids (those following deoband school of thought)as possible if the Ulema's from deoband allow me to do so I request to mail the fatwa to me in three languages (hindi, english, urdu) so that it gets maximum exposure.

    It is the Sunnah to put the dead on the right side facing the Qibla and this is the usual Islamic way. The dead should be made to lie down on right side with a prop to his back so that he can remain on his right side:

    وفي البداية: إذا احتضر الرجل وجه إلى القبلة على شقه الأيمن اعتبارا لحال الوضع في القبر (البداية: 273، رشيديه)

     

    (2) It is proved to spray incense in graves albeit spraying rose water on the dead after putting him in the grave is bid'ah (innovation in religion):

    ويوضع الحنوط في القبر لأنه عليه الصلاة والسلام فعل ذلك بابنه إبراهيم (فتح القدير: 346/1)

     

    It is not proved to spray water in graves but spraying water on graves in order to settle the soil is proved. Thus after burial, it is also proved to recite the first of Surah Al-Baqrah at the head of the dead and the last of Surah Al-Baqrah at the foot of the dead, but it is Mustahab (desirable), considering it necessary is wrong:

    عن عبدالله بن محمد يعني ابن عمر عن أبيه أن رسول الله صل الله عليه وسلم رش على قبر إبنه (محموديه 120/9)
